1. Describe a typical career path for learning agents in the field of law enforcement. What are common strengths and weaknesses of the learning agents who have followed these traditional paths? There are institutions that offer a program which covers Law Enforcement. It is usually offered as an associate degree and some institutions even have a curriculum that is online. After completing an associate degree in Law Enforcement, one can find himself in many law enforcement agencies that open a lot of job opportunities for those students of law enforcement.
They can become a police officer, a security officer, or a deputy officer. 2. What are your suggestions for determining the learning needs of law enforcement personnel? What strategies would you use to determine their training needs? What would you do if their learning needs were different from the organization’s needs? Students who were able to take a program on law enforcement have advantages when they try to penetrate on the world of law enforcement compared to those who wanted to become a law enforcement officer who doesn’t have any credits on law enforcement (Lake Region State College, 2008).
It is the strength of the learning agent—having a background on what they’re trying to pursue which makes them adept. It will also be easier for them to advance one or several steps to other related fields. The good news is there are many job offerings for those who want to be part of the law enforcement field, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. The weakness would probably lie on the fact that these learning agents have not really completed a bachelor’s degree.
An associate degree program is very focused on what the student wishes to pursue and some courses are eliminated for the whole program. Very few credits are given to the students compared to those taking a serious bachelor’s degree. In a bachelor’s degree program, students have a wider knowledge of many things because they get a few of almost everything. Perhaps to see the learning needs of many law enforcement personnel, we would have to look at what these people do for their profession.
We need to see what these people are supposed to do to meet the job’s objectives and see what of those are attained by the officers. Those which are not activities which are not done and those objectives which were not attained should be evaluated and see the relationship with the skills and educational background of the law enforcement officers. This must be done in order to see what must be done to improve those skills.
I think, it will be good to give training to the law enforcement students that will develop their skills further and, at the same time, making sure that the student will be able to meet the organization’s needs after the training. That means, more than the training the students needs for their own skills, they’ll get additional trainings to make sure that they’ll be competitive and would meet the demands. 3. Based on your experience, describe a training approach in law enforcement that was highly effective. What aspects of the training appealed to you? Why were some training programs considerably better than others?
