In the year 2020, technology will play a large role in the court system. It would be difficult for the courts to function without the use of technology in some fashion. Information and records will be strictly on computers and the use of papers will be nearly eliminated. The use of technology will allow courts to share information at both the state and federal levels. Additionally, the systems will incorporate justice standards, open standards and de facto standards that will enable courts to share information at a national level.
In the year 2020, courts will be completely accessible by the web. Courts will be more accessible by placing court docket calendars, electronic filing, electronic access to court records, online payment of fines and fees, electronic opinions and oral arguments. Court websites will be accessible to those with disabilities. “The Department of Correction shall protect the public, protect staff, and provide safe, secure and humane supervision of offenders with opportunities that support successful community reintegration. ” (Department of Correction, 2009, Pg.
01) The Department of Corrections is a governmental department that operates at municipal, county, state, and federal levels. The year 2020 has many uncertainties regarding the Department of Corrections. For one, change is what the correctional system will require in order to survive. Two, corrections will use different methodologies, such as, rehabilitation, or parole, in order to advance its operations to the fullest. And, three, the Department of Corrections will focus on creating advanced applications such as training in the year 2020.
Today the gales of criminal destruction are blowing through every city in the United States, leaving an everlasting impact upon victims and victims’ families, a social impact upon society, and the most devastating of all is the fiscal impact these criminals produce on the correctional system. In the year 2020, the correctional system will need an extensive array of treatments that help to reintegrate offenders back into their communities. The future of corrections relies heavily on rehabilitation.
Rehabilitation comes into play by transforming offenders into productive citizens that will be useful to our society. Rehabilitation is used to reduce recidivism; this is what our correctional system needs. Rehabilitation is more of a permanent solution when looking to create a barrier between the offender and criminal acts in the year 2020. What our society and correctional departments need in the year 2020 is a solution to the problem. The problem is offenders committing criminal acts and understanding what these offenders need in order to reduce and prevent future crime.
The year 2020 will require adequate financial assistance for all correctional facilities. There also needs to have accommodations for the influx of offenders, because as the population increases so do offenses. With this said rehabilitation is the solution to the problem. Rehabilitation is extremely useful to help offenders acclimate themselves back into society. They teach offenders to find jobs and feel like they are making a difference within society; these programs also help offenders from committing more crimes later on.
This type of deterrence is what these offenders need. Rehabilitation is the hub for change at the prison and community levels. All convicted offenders need support transitioning back into a law abiding society. The term “corrections” is defined as, “the treatment of offenders through a system of penal incarceration, rehabilitation, probation, and parole, or the administrative system by which these are effectuated. ” (Corrections, 2009, Pg. 01)
