Employee hiring policy will ensure what has been perceived to be illegal on employment of the private security firm to replace or reinforce military for example in Iraq will be streamlined. The policy will ensure employment of only competent personnel to engage in issues of security provision. This will make the security firm to embark on vigorous training of their employee and ensuring only physically persons are employed. This translates to requiring the security firms to expand their infrastructure to facilitate for better training personnel who will be acceptable like the military personnel.
Employment of employee policy translates to increased cost of service delivery. Policy set standard and efforts to facilitate to achieving these standards translates to additional cost. For example if the policy require the security firms to offer military training to its employee before the are employed for peace keeping mission. This will translate to employment of capital to facilitate for training equipment which is an expensive venture. Cost may result to driving security firms out of business or rule the out of offering services they are not trained for as they have been accused in Iraq.
Increased cost will also result to increased price to the service delivered. This is because the security firm will try to pass the increased cost to the consumer. This means that the security services can be leaded expensive if strict employee policy are instituted making these services unreachable. This condition is harmful to the countries security. Employees policies ensure that any employer will be keen to ensure the human rights are respected. This will also apply to security firm such that, if employee policy is followed to the letter the cases of bias recruitment will be minimal.
“Security contractors have worrisome implications for both the United States and Latin American countries. Uneven vetting procedures by some PMFs that recruit in the region contradict and potentially undermine official U. S. policies to promote respect for human rights by Latin American military and police forces”(Mani, 2007 para 2). Staffs requirements as provided by the employees policy, will improve the staff performance and better service delivery for example job equipment as well as training will be achieved.
Human right will try to avoid misuse of the employees for example making employee to work or exposing them to dangerous place without enough expertise or better equipments to handle the situation. For example the have been claims that security personnel reinforcing the military have been forced to get to front line in the battlefield and yet they lack military training. Employment policies ensures that before a person(s) engage in a job he/she understands the term of employment before signing the contract.
When there is a contract it will be hard to force employee to do work they never signed for as stipulated in the signed contract. This will also apply to security firm employees such that if the terms of the contract talk only about guarding services, there will be no chances of forcing the employee to alternative assignment as it has been reported to have happened to the employee of the security firms in peace keeping mission. This means that employee policy will make employer to meet international standard of the human right and cease from exploiting there employees.
Employee policy is important since it ensure the security firms work within the law. It will help the security firm to be able to observe the law for example; the labor law and facilitates for a transparent recruitment as well as service. “lack of effective regulation of the private security industry has led to abusive labor practices by some PMFs; it has also encouraged corruption in some Latin American militaries eager to benefit from the recruitment of former soldiers—a development that undercuts efforts to achieve civilian control of militaries in the region’s new democracies” (Mani, 2007 para 2).
Therefore, employee’s policies which incorporate the interest of a nation as well as rights of the employees will try to streamline the private security firms which have habits of illegal practice as stated above. On the other hand employee policy might result to be advantageous to the private security firms if well employed. If the public realize that the private security firms have respect to the employee policy, they stand to gain much in terms of market and it will also be easy for them to source for employees from the society.
Employee policy will result to improved market because the public will have confidence in the security firm’s because employee policy ensure for high integrity within the working force. It eases sourcing of employee because any persons interested in security employment will have not doubt on exploitation in the working place by there employer, which comes as a result of lack of raid down plan of work which is available in the employee policy.
It is also advantageous to the government since the policy give the government guide line on controlling the operations of the private security firms.
