Social justice

Social justice means an equal and fair opportunity for everyone to live in just conditions of the society. It predicts rights regarding social, economic and political matters for the all over development of a person to live a healthy social life. Bullying is one of the most important problem in our society. Bullying comes in many different forms, from cyber bullying to physical bullying. It is not right and it has to stop. Bullying has a negative effect on the victim’s life.

Those who are constantly bullied can be pushed to the breaking point, where they could end up hurting themselves or others. For this assignment I planned to do something different. Some of my friends (2 males and 2 females) and I pulled a bullying prank on random public places just to see what people will react. I was disgusted by few people's behavior. People saw four people were bullying one person physically and verbally and they just walked away instead of helping. When they walked out, one of my friend called them over to say it was a prank and ask them how come they didn’t help.

Some people were like "sorry I’m in rush" and some people just refuse to listen what my friend had to say and walked away. On the other hand, there were some people who helped stop bullying. There was a girl who actually pushed one of my friend and told them if they don't stop she will call the police. Then I told her it's just a prank and I thanked her for doing what she should have done. At one point I told my friends to stop pranking people because I was surprise by people’s behavior.

On average there were three people came up to help out of ten. As I wrote at the beginning social justice is being fair to the society while following all the rules and regulations of the society. Bullying has a huge impact on how someone presents themselves in society because of the focus applied to the negatives rather than the positives. There are many examples of social justice related to bullying. For example, people get bullied because of their gender, ethnic background, religion, skin color and etc.

In terms of these social injustices, people are treated unfairly and are just left alone with no help whatsoever. The experiment I did is a great example of people being injustice. From our viewpoint, being bullied might seem not that too big of a deal. This is only easy to say because we are not the victims of this horrible act of putting someone to shame. But when we did the prank I was in victim’s position and it’s not easy to see people being injustice. Also the other day, I saw an African American boy who is 4/5 years old by himself wondering around in a very crowded train.

Everybody was looking at him and may be wondering what is he doing by himself in this crowded train but nobody said anything to the kid. Few minutes later, I saw the kid seating on the floor of the train and still nobody said anything. I just wanted to see if anybody will say anything but nobody said anything to him but kept looking at him. Then I asked the kid if he was okay and he said “yeah I just want to seat. ” I also asked him if he’s by himself in the train or with somebody.

He told me he is with his mom but he his mom is other end of the cart. I told him how he shouldn’t be by himself on this crowded train. He told me he knows what stop to get off. After two stops his mom came to look for him and they both got off together. After he got off the train, the people around me were giving me smiles and one of them said I did a good job by questioning the kid. But nobody said anything to the kid while he was in the train but just stare at him. This incident made me wonder if it’s just because he was an African American kid.
