Religion and Ethnic Diversity Paper

The religion group that I pick would be s Jehovah’s Witnesses because I love to know what the other religions believes in and how do they worship. In ethnicity group that I pick to talk about is White (European descent). I have learned a lot since this class about the different type of ethnicity group but I see a lot of Jehovah’s witnesses around my community, knocking on people’s door. These two choices are different common together but I would like to know more about it, since my mother was a Jehovah’s Witness when she was a child.

My selected of religion groups are different for other religious groups because they go door to door while other religious groups let the people go to them. They do this because they consider it an honor to spread the word of god. Jehovah’s they practice religion very similar to others, they worship God, Pray to him, and they also think all good things come from him. They also believe that God can not lie therefore what the bible tells them will come true and that the earth will someday be cleansed of all “wickedness”.

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe that God rules the entire earth and everything that it contains, therefore, they do not agree with our government system. They believe that it was not until God threw satin out of his kingdom and damned him to hell in 1914 that he gave Jesus his kingdom. The Jehovah’s Witnesses also believe that the root of all evil stems from Adam and it is because of him that humans endure sickness, death and old age. Unlike all of other religions that do baptizing when a child is young however, Jehovah’s Witnesses only baptize those who want to serve as a Jehovah’s Witness.

Other groups do not have the same beliefs and had discriminated against Jehovah’s witnesses. Jehovah’s have been treated poorly and even been victims of violent crimes. Even they were shunned in many different areas around the world. Like in Frances the government branded them as dangerous and the kingdom halls were burned down, firebomb, shot at and vandalized. In The united states in the early 30’s and 40’s in some parts of the United states made it illegal for Jehovah’s Witnesses distribute their literature and the children of Jehovah’s witnesses were banded from attending schools in the state.

The 1930s and 1940s, some US states passed laws that made it illegal for Jehovah's Witnesses to distribute their literature, and children of Jehovah's Witnesses in some states were banned from attending state schools. Mob violence against Jehovah's Witnesses was not uncommon, and some were murdered for their beliefs. Those responsible for these attacks were seldom prosecuted the sources of this discrimination and prejudice came from governments as well as general population.

Despite their different beliefs, the Jehovah’s Witness do believe that according to the bible, they must love their neighbors and show love to one another. So I can understand Jehovah witnesses in a way. Because no matter what happens they continue to help American anyway they can and also do it with all the rules they have. So if they can help American and stick with the rules I appreciate them very much. ETHNIC GROUP Hispanics are the nation's largest ethnic group and growing fast. They represent nearly 14 percent of our U. S. population.

Hispanics vary in national origin, skin color, social and economic background, language use, and their immigrant and legal issues Hispanics face the many challenges often confronted by immigrants in the U. S. Whatever forms the prejudice and discrimination, Latino/Hispanics experience it all. an sources of prejudice against Latinos is the perception that Latino’s are un- American meaning they do not behave with our American values. Such have Speaking English has a primary language for them. They do not want assimilate into our American culture.

Latinos tend to use Spanish over English as a sign of their UN willingness to assimilate. There are many other negative stereotypes of Latinos, such as Latinos being lazy and unintelligent, un-American, criminals. This made me look at Latinos/ Hispanic differently, I never knew how much stereotyping and how hard it’s for them. I have a lot of friends and I never knew how much they get discriminating. This really open my eye and I view other people ethnic groups and beliefs totally different and I accept

everyone whoever they are and what their beliefs are. I get great to get to know other cultures and how they see and view things.
