Overseas Filipino

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) was established as a small bureu in 1908 under the Department of Commerce and Ploice. It had, for it’s principal functions, the registration of laborers, the compilation and analysis of statistics pertaining to labor market situation, the organization of employment agencies, and the settlement of disputes. On December 8, 1933, the Bureau of Labor was constituted as Department by virtue of republic Act 4121.

Since then, it has continuosly evolved its thrusts and strategies to respond to emerging socio-political and economic chalenges while keeping as primary concern the protection and promotion of the welfare of local and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs. ) Today, the DOLE is the national goverment agency mandated to formulate policies, implement programs and serve as the policy-coordinating arm of the Executive Branch in the field of labor and Employment. It serves more thant 36 million workers compromising the country labor force, covering those in the formal and informal economics, private and public.

On top of this, the DOLE clients also include workers’ organizations, employers and/oremployers’ groups, non-govermet organizations (NGOs), and other goverment agencies, the academe, other stakeholders, international organizations (e. g. , ILO, IOM, UNDP,UNICEF), and the international community including the host countries of our OFWs. To carry its mandate, the DOLE has 16 regional offices with four (4) Satellite offices, 38 overseas posts, 7 bureaus, 7 staff services band 12 agencies attached to it for policy and program supervision and/or coordination.

It has a total manpower complement or 8,518. MISSION To promote gainful employment opportunities, develop human resources, protect workers and promote their welfare, and maintain industrial peace. VISSION Every Filipino worker attains full, decent and productive employment. What did you learn in my practicum? I learned from my practicum in DOLE-RO9 to be more responsible in all the tasks given to me and finish it on time,Be confident always and try to overcome my shyness, Learn from my mistakes and accept criticism, Act like a professional and Be punctual.

Because of this On-The-Job Training I learned more about the duty and responsibity of each staff in DOLE-RO9 most especially during my experience in JOB FAIR (Labor Day). 2. What would I recommend to future student practicum? I would recommend to the future student practicum is that just be in yourself and don’t be ashamed to asked quetions to the staff. 3.
