Juvenile Justice Procedures crimes

Another important institution to help communities to lessen and prevent juvenile crimes is the school. Education can be a key element to prevent and lessen crime among the youth. Young people can get to an unfavorable choice because of the learning they have acquired inside their classroom. Teens that have already developed analytical thinking can be prevented from crimes since they are more likely to think before leaping into something they are not keen to do. Teachers were considered to be the most important tools for the learning process of the students to take place.

Unfortunately, during adolescent years of youth when juvenile crimes were likely to occur, most teachers also shift attitudes towards their students. Teachers tend to be sour on their students and they usually regard the youth as their enemy. Proposed alternatives for these to happen is to create or to recreate schools to be a better place for the adolescents to stay. Success in the prevention and lessening of juvenile crimes usually is observed in schools were discipline is strong and firm.

It is also essential for the school to demand for parents’ interaction and participation for the fulfillment of the strategy to prevent and lessen crimes among the youth. There are suggested steps for a school to be successful. The first step is for the security and safety of the students and school staff inside school. To be able to achieve safety at school, installation of metal detectors in areas that are risky could be a safety precaution for the school administrators. Security guards could be employed at the school premises will also be a great help to achieve a better school for the students.

The second step is the dedication to education. “Juvenile Justice Procedures” Enhancement of learning could be achieved by giving or implementing some rewards for the students who are performing at their best. It was mentioned earlier that interaction of parents is very essential for the success of the strategy. There are several ways to implement parents’ interaction such as calling the parents every now and then to inform of their children’s behavior at school especially when the students are cutting classes.

Another way to implement interaction of parents is for the school to plan more school activities that requires the participation of parents (Rose, 2007). Another step that could be implemented by the school administrators are symposiums or curriculum inclusion of anger management that could result to juvenile crimes if not earlier prevented. After requiring the family and the school’s participation in the strategy, it is now the community’s role to also take part in the prevention of juvenile crimes.

In case prevention programs were created in the community, it should include two important things that the people should know. The first important thing is that citizens in a community could also be at danger because they could be the probable protectors as well as the victims of the juvenile crimes. Another important thing the citizens should know is that violent crimes done by juveniles are not predictable. Policemen employed in the community are of great help to prevent juvenile crimes.

They must be able to communicate properly to the citizens inside the community to integrate trust by the people in the community. Trust given by the community people to the local law enforcement authorities is very essential for the prevention of juvenile crimes. Situations like reporting of a crime and other unnecessary activities could be trusted to the local law enforcers to facilitate a smooth sailing and immediate investigation. “Juvenile Justice Procedures”

Suggestions given by Richard Neely of the West Virginia Supreme Court’s Chief Justice that community people can also avail of their own security men. Guidelines such as the wearing of uniform so that authority will be established and non-carrying of weapons by the security men should be followed. Another guideline to be followed by the private security is they should focus more on protection of the community people and prevention of burglary. Reporting of crime and proper identification of the status offenders are also the guidelines that the security men should follow (Miller, 1993).

The problems occurring in treating juvenile offenders is the lack resources in the juvenile correctional institutions in order to give the offenders proper treatment. There were new guidelines set in order to solve the problem. Recommendations from the guidelines include the screening of the all the juvenile status offenders as well as giving the proper education on clinicians on the exceptional system they will encounter in the juvenile correctional facilities. A suggestion was made that a systematic evaluation should be appropriately made for the juvenile offenders who had tried to commit suicide.

Included in the guiding principles is the help for the juvenile status offenders. Well, after efforts of communicating with the family, school and community it will be now the role of decision makers in the juvenile justice process to help also the victims of the offenders. Information of the victim’s rights, and support and services should be well delivered to the victims. Although many programs were created to help the juvenile status offenders, it is still proper and appropriate to give them the treatment they needed.

It is also the task of the juvenile justice process to make sure that the justice offenders understand the consequences of the crime they have created. It is also essential for them to realize the impacts that the crime have created “Juvenile Justice Procedures” in the community. In this way, there were able to distinguish the disadvantages of the actions they have done (Guiding Principles for Pennsylvania’s Juvenile Justice System, 2004).
