Industrial Revolution

People always wonder about the things they saw surrounding them when they woken up by the alarm sound coming from their cell phones, they wonder how the cell phones are made, when they go to work, they wonder how the buses made, when they work, they wonder about how the computers are made and all of those can be answered by the Industrial Revolution.

All of it started with the invention of the steam power and by the developments made by that many other great developments spread all around the world in the years between 1760 and 1840. Therefore, Industrial Revolution had a great impact on the world’s technological, economical and social matters.

The first effect of the Industrial Revolution can be seen in technological developments. Of course, one can simply conclude that the industry had the biggest effect from the Industrial Revolution. With the invention of the first steam powered engine in the 18th century by James Watt, it became possible to built factories to anywhere and also to supply materials to these factories all around the cities, trains working by the steam powered engines are invented.

It also allowed the transportation to be much quicker and a lot cheaper. Second part of the technological developments is on textile. After the invention of the spinning mill that fastens the producing of combing made it possible to produce cotton in a lot easier way.

Then other inventions came along to make combing even easier and cotton factories are started to build around the cities. In addition, Industrial Revolution had also an impact on agriculture. It first began with the invention of the seed drill and later the harvesting machines. With the help of these machines, there were a surplus in food and to protect these foods, manufacturers found a new way to both store them and sell them. It was called the canned goods which was a new way to store food. In sum, the first effect of Industrial Revolution was seen on the technological developments, especially on subjects like industry, textile, and the agriculture.

Another effect of the Industrial Revolution can be seen in economy. Firstly, because of the increase in construction of the roads, canal systems and the railways, trading became a lot easier for manufacturers and service suppliers. For example, manufacturers found a lot bigger customer opportunity with importing their goods to other countries with the ships that works with steam powered engines.

Another example is about with export, supplying raw material for the countries got a lot easier and cheaper for them and it allowed them to compete with other countries in the development race. Secondly, banks are founded to help manufacturers and to regulate the flow of money. As an example of the importance of the banks there were about 70 banks in London by the year 1800. Owing to these banks, manufacturers were able to start new enterprises by borrowing money from the banks. Thirdly, increase in production helped economy to be bigger.

Agriculture and factories were become a lot more related with the commercial businesses. Countries understood that capitalism is the right economical system to be a bigger, richer, and a powerful country and thus, capitalism spread all around the world and it quickly embraced by whole Europe and United States. To summarize, Industrial Revolution affected economy from the aspects of manufacturers, banks and the economical systems.

Industrial Revolution did not only have effects on technological and economical matters, it had also effects on social matters. The first effect of Industrial Revolution is on people’s quality of life. In the Industrial Revolution period there was a need for workers to control the machines and thanks to that reason the worker wages were increased and were protected by the laws. Another example to show the quality of life in people’s life is the decrease in prices of clothes and household appliances. Besides the people’s quality of life, Industrial Revolution affected nutrition.

As a consequence of the mass production, food stocks raised. To sell this surplus food, manufacturers lowered the prices of the products and it allowed the people to pay less for nutrition. The last and maybe one of the most important effects of the Industrial Revolution was seen in laboring. Middle-class businessmen found new areas to make business because, thanks to steam engine, they were able to build factories anywhere.

Also the working-class people had increased opportunities for employment due to reason of the new factories built in the countries. To sum up, Industrial Revolution had enormous game changing effects on social matters, these are; quality of life, nutrition, and the laboring.

To conclude, Industrial Revolution is a period that changed the world from three aspects. The effects on technology, economy and social matters are the things that made our future. Who knows what will our life would be if Industrial Revolution had not happened 200 years ago. Maybe we would still be working on farms with a shovel in our hands. Fortunately, Industrial Revolution has happened and led the world to become a lot more civilized and global.
