Government policies

Also because Ginsters have many job that that requires the driving of a vehicle they will have to have digital tachograph readers in each, this means that their driver will need to be equipped with a driver's card. This card is a plastic card which is inserted into the tachograph to allow it to take accurate reading of the number of miles and hours the driver has driven.

This is done so that so that Department of Transport inspectors may carry out checks on the amount of time drivers spend behind the wheel of a company vehicle. Ginsters will need to ensure that they stick to these rules of the amount of hours their employees can drive and the hours they can drive otherwise they could be at risk from having prosecutions against Ginsters and their employees, as it is a criminal offence to not stick to these rules.

Also Ginsters will need to ensure that all their van drivers have drivers card otherwise Ginsters could get into trouble and be at risk from being prosecuted for employees driving Ginsters vehicles without a rivers card to record data, this is because the tachograph reader will inform the department of transport that that the vehicle has been driven without a driver's card. This PEST factor could affect Ginsters as it could be very expensive for Ginsters to buy all their driver cards.

IT could also affect Ginsters as they will need to ensure that their employees do not break the rules otherwise Ginsters will be at fault and could end up being prosecuted and losing lots of money. This PEST factor could be significant to Ginsters as it could directly affect their ability to achieve the aim / objective of meeting their stakeholders need this is because Ginsters will need to ensure that their employees do not work too much and have the right amount of rest for the work that they do this means that they will be meeting their employees needs.

This will ensure that there employees get the right amount of rest so that it is safe for them to drive, this is because of they do not have the right amount of rest because they are driving long hours in order to get home as soon as possible, they could potentially have a dangerous collision.

This PEST factor could also be significant to Ginsters as it could directly affect their ability to achieve the aim / objective of maximising profit as they will have to pay money out of their profits to be able to buy their employees who drive the lorries drivers cards, this means that they will have less profits as they will have to buy these for each of their employees, also it is a legal requirement.

In the short term it will cost Ginsters a large proportion of their profits so they will not be meeting their aim of maximising profits, however in the long term they will eliminate any prosecutions if they do not meet the legal requirements, this means that they will be ensuring they meet their aim to maximise profits. Another PEST factor that I think could affect Ginsters is Environmental and Ecological issues. Environmental issues are negatives aspects that human activity has created on the environment; these are things such as waste, climate change, Global warming, and acid rain.

This has become a recently occurring issue for businesses as the government are increasing laws on the way that businesses deal with waste from the business and the emissions they produce. This is because in recent years people are becoming more aware of the effect that waste can have on the environment and the effect that is causing. Government are trying to prevent the effects of Global warming this is caused by things such as waste disposable and emissions.

This PEST factor could affect Ginsters as the government have started to act on the ways that businesses affect the environment; they have do this as they are trying to reduce the harm that businesses do on the environment. Ginsters will need to consider the effects that they have on areas of environment by activities such as emissions into the air, storage and disposal or recovery of business waste, packaging of their products. One of the main ways that Ginsters could be affected by environmental issues is the packaging that they use for their products.

The wrappers for their products are usually made out of plastic which is black with the Ginsters or Cornwall logo in red and white. This is an environmental issue regarding Ginsters as the plastic that they use to package their products is not recyclable, and is not biodegradable; this means that Ginsters is having a huge negative impact on the environment. This is because for every savoury product that has Ginsters sell to a consumer the packaging is being chucked away and cannot be recycled or biodegrade, this means that society has no way other than to burn Ginsters packaging waste.

This type of waste disposal will also create a negative impact on the environment as it will be burnt and then the waste emissions will go into the atmosphere increasing global warming further. This means that Ginsters packaging is having a negative effect on the environment. This PEST factor could be significant to Ginsters as it could directly affect their ability to achieve the aim / objective of becoming the UK's savoury product market leader this is because Ginsters will have to change their packaging in order to decrease their effect on their environment.

This aim could be affected as people have brand awareness of Ginsters and this means that if Ginsters change their packaging this could lead Ginsters having a decrease amount of customers as customers may be unaware of the fact that Ginsters have changed the packaging therefore they will be less likely to notice the new packaging of the Ginsters products therefore they may not know that Ginsters products exist. For example people may go to a supermarket to get a Ginsters pasty and think that the supermarket has sold out of their products if they do not notice that the packaging has changing.

This will affect Ginsters as their sales will decrease, this means they will have less profits in the business. This PEST factors could also be significant to Ginsters as it could directly affect their ability to achieve the aim / objective of maximising profit, this is because the product that Ginsters make will have to be ploughed back into the business in order to but the raw materials to create a new economical packaging for Ginsters products, also they will have to plough their profits back into the business in order to get new technology that can make the packaging in vast quantities.

Ginsters could use packaging that can be recycled such as cardboard boxes for their pasties; this means that people can recycle their packaging for their pasties. By doing this Ginsters will be decreasing their effect that they have on the environment. By doing this Ginsters will be unable to meet their aim out of maximising profit as they will have to put the money back into the business to create the new products in order to be a more economically viable company.

Another way that Ginsters aim to maximise profits could be affected by this PEST factor is that if they were to build a new property closers to Cornwall's factory where they could package their savoury good rather than transporting their goods to Bristol and back, they would have to spend money on building and kitting out their new property with machinery to do this and the money it costs to buy or built the new property. This means that Ginsters will not be meeting their aim to maximise profits as they will be spending all their profits on the new premises.

However in the long-term Ginsters will benefit from building a new property as it will mean that they will spend less money on things such as petrol to transfer goods from Cornwall to Bristol, it will also save money on the things they have to do to their transportation things such as lorries, this is because they will be travelling less distance this means things such as there tyres will take less time to wear down. This will affect their aim to maximise profit as they will not have to pay out as much money for these aspects so they will have increased profit left over in the business.

Another PEST factor that I think could affect Ginsters is Pressure groups. This factor is the effect that pressure groups can have on a business. A pressure group is an organisation of people who have the same beliefs about something. They have strong views on the things they believe in and wish to influence some aspects of society. This helps maximise the affect that these groups have because a group of people working together will have more effect to change something than an individual.
