Elitism in modern UK government

“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. Corporations have been enthroned, an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money-power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until the wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed. ” In the past it was called networking but with development of many facets of the society, it also used to be called nepotism but then again that’s old fashioned as well like dropping a bomb on someone.

In today’s age no one drops bombs anymore, now day’s people inflict collateral damage. Many dictionaries will state that networking had replaced nepotism as a social norm but people gradually realize its pros and cons. (Broom 543) Nepotism basically means favoring certain associations or personal relationships or friends as their association to a major extent for reasons other than the abilities they posses. This particular word is used in a derogatory sagacity.

Nepotism refers to showing preferred treatment basically in the hiring process towards relatives and spouses of current employees in the government or any other organization. Even though nepotism is widely practiced in the hiring process which may be official or casual it has generated great deal of argument, even though just little has been written about it. Much pragmatic research on this topic is even non existent. In contrast although favoritism is the broader term used for the same context, we will start with its definition.

In a broader prospect Nepotism is exactly what it sounds like, it is basically showing favor to an individual not on the basis of their abilities but a totally irrelevant feature, whether it be blood relatives, or member of a particular group, personal perceptions. Preference may also be shown in either hiring or honoring and even awarding individuals. From the governmental perspective is the support provided during handing down public service jobs to those individuals who may have played an active role in the election of an individual in power.

it is found that the policy of Nepotism arise from absolutely no policy at all there is no rule that prevents an individual to be employed who is connected to another employee in the organization in question. It is to the extent that strict nepotism policies may put managers in an uncomfortable situation where they are informed if they get married they might lose their jobs. It is sad to mention that such pessimistic impact in government offices is often theatrical. (Kamarck 94-96)

The growing rate of nepotism and corruption in UK can be found in the most obvious example of Labor Services to the wealthy. It is basically a structure based on policies that have facilitated a less than positive transfer of wealth from the lower end of society to establishing Britain as a hearty playground for the millionaires. It is estimated that London is the residence of about 50 billionaires, this including the more aggressive Russian oligarch as well as the Roman Ambramovivh, Berezovksy and Blavatnik, that are influencing the government constantly.

In the early nineties only one Russian was given UK citizenship, but in the next decade this number rose to about 800. The new found name for London is now Moscow on the Thames, this just shows the rush of Russians squandering and storing their loot obtained from the plummeting Russian economy. Who is to blame for this other than the Government? The UK government has made non domicile residents tax status is empted for about 90 days on overseas earnings and investments in offshore ventures. Over hundred thousand benefit from this glitch in accounting of over billions of pounds each year.
