Criminal Laws that should be Repealed

There are two criminal laws that I believe should be repealed. These are the following: Abortion Laws The first is “abortion laws” (Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, n. d. ). It is stated in “Chapter II Article 4. 1 of the American Convention on Human Rights” that “Every person has the right to have his life respected. This right shall be protected by law and, in general, from the moment of conception. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his life” (Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, n. d. ).

It should be repealed because of the following: 1) women are given limitations or boundaries when it comes to her decisions on fertility; 2) women are provided with limitations or boundaries when it comes to their right to utilize certain health services in order to attain their needs which concerns their fertility; 3) women should be the one making the final decisions with regards to their fertility/body and no one should (Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, n. d. ). Hate Crime Laws The other one is “hate crime laws” (Hate Crime Sentencing Enhancement Act, n. d. ).

The “Hate Crime Sentencing Enhancement Act (28 USC 994)” ratified a national accompaniment to “state hate crime penalty-enhancement statutes in the 1994 crime bill” (Hate Crime Sentencing Enhancement Act, n. d. ). This obliges the “United States Sentencing Commission to increase the penalties for crimes in which the victim was selected because of the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability, or sexual orientation of any person” (Hate Crime Sentencing Enhancement Act, n. d. ).

This should be repealed because this law paid no attention to several hate crimes that needed to be included just like the fact that it failed to cover “all types of violence that males may carry out towards females, crimes that may be done against mentally-challenged and physically challenged individuals, and narrow-mindedness/discrimination against children” (Hate Crime Sentencing Enhancement Act, n. d. ).
