The new technologies being developed give police new tools and ways to stop the criminal. Intelligence analyst is a big part of the police technology advancements and is a trending opportunity for the police to stop more violence.
Leadership is one of the foreseeable critical issues that may affect policing in the future. Many people don’t see leadership as others may see it, some may see it as building a relationship with people when other’s see it as someone who is a boss over you or someone else. Leadership occupies an important role towards the success or failure of every organization Leadership.
The following are the critical leadership as well as the organizational issues that could affect the future of policing. First , is the leadership that makes people grows second is the leadership that uses power to empower people third , the leadership that transform people and fourth , is the leadership by example . The four organizational issues however include value to police performance, sufficient funding, quality of equipment, trainings and protection against suit when accused in line with the performance of duties, and the assessment of police performance.
One of the most critical issues facing the field of policing (both today and in the future) is public relations and perception. Two factors that can be addressed to improve public relations and perception are the issues of the attitude of 'law enforcement' and revenue generation. Communication is another key critical issue facing the field of policing today and possibly in the future because different branches or police do not communicate like law enforcement should. The more people communicate with one another will allow the work or what needs to be done to get done the proper and possibly the safest way.
These critical issues can come down to reactive and proactive patrol where communication is a very important aspect to use. Reactive patrol is when the police respond in some manner to crimes that have already been committed. Police respond to a citizen’s request or responding to a crime after it has already occurred. Proactive patrol is when the police set up a plan that keeps people from doing things that can lead to trouble. Clearly being assertive implies the proactive patrol of police. They can travel around and look for things that could cause crime and if they think something is up they can try and intervene before something does happen. Reactive speaks to acting and only if prompted to do so.
If a police agency decided to only adopt one of these policies then the force would be very unorganized and I think more crimes would take place because there are not officers that can go to the scene of a crime right away or you may have not have some to prevent crime. You need both of these agencies for your police officers so you can keep crime off the streets, not only are their officers that will be there when something is being done they can also keep an eye on things to make sure nothing is about to go down.
Policing is used by police administration to organize the chain of command with in a department and show the flow of the departments division. Policing is depicted as a way of crime control, Policing refers to organized forms of order maintenance, peace keeping, rule or law enforcement, crime investigation. Theories is also that it is the governmental department charged with the regulation and control of the affairs of a community, now chiefly the department established to maintain order, enforce the law, and prevent and detect crime.
The institutional theory says that police organizations are social institutions that operate in connection to their outside social and political environments; they have to be opening minded and look beyond what is just in front of them, and that perhaps they might need help from an outside source. I think that this theory best serves police organizations because police have to look further than just what is in front of them because if they didn’t then there would be petty crime arrest every day and people getting wrongly accused. There has to be some type of investigation to prove whether a person did commit the crime and if he or she had an accomplice to help commit the crime.
The function of policing is to provide overall public safety. The goal is to deter and prevent crime by immobilizing police units. When local cities have to rely on the law to come to solve a crime it’s usually the local city police or the sheriff’s department who come to the call. It is possible that state law enforcement can come to a crime scene in the city even though they deal with mostly out of town and highway patrol.
State law enforcement enforce the laws on the highways and help the sheriff’s department handle crime situations out of city limits because it’s out of the jurisdiction of the city police. It’s important that we as citizens put confidence in the law enforcement because it’s them that fight the crime and help bring criminals to justice. When something of this nature occurs, this is where communication plays an important role in the situation.
Law enforcement faces the major issue of identifying who is committing crimes all around the world. They are supposed to treat everyone equally and fairly while also weeding out the terrorist walking among us. These terrorist are very good at hiding their true intentions and looking "normal" which is a huge issue for law enforcement. An issue concerning law enforcement today is amber alerts and angry parents, fortunately a new system was adopted, in the mid 1900’s, and police officers can identify license plates with the license plate reader system.
Once a license plate is confirmed, the amber alert gets put on the “hot List” and the case transfers over to the Department of Homeland Security. Ways that the relationship between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and DHS be improved is most states bringing together existing public security, law enforcement, and emergency response capabilities linking them to similar local assets and opening channels to other states. law enforcement and intelligence has been nearly obliterated, some law enforcement organizations are being directed to become more like intelligence agencies, and the foreign intelligence community is being fundamentally reformed.
The impact of these changes has been even greater at the state level: state governments have been assigned the lead role in homeland security.
