Increased public awareness, issues like BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill, Exxon Valdez oil leak, etc, have placed CSR under public and critiques scrutiny. I think every organization should play its part in sustainability, environmental protection and reversing climate change. Oil and gas companies face environmental, health and safety risks, liability risks, and ultimately reputational risks the management of which is central to the companies’ long-term success.The following will be appropriate goals for the Corporate Social Responsibility DepartmentEnvironmental Indicators1. Sustaining Biodiversity and Ecosystem at the ocations were company is operating 3. Engagement & Positive impact in local communitySome of the major initiatives/activities that could be planned are 1. Awareness on CSR: It is very critical for the mployees to be aware of company’s vision towards CSR. Everyone in the organization should know the goals of CSR and how they can contribute to this goal.2. Energy Audit: Energy efficiency is a win-win goal both for the company and to the environment. Energy audit will help to map the energy consumption and distribution which can be used to identify energy efficiency opportunities3. Reaching out to Local community: Understanding the impact of the company’s operation on the local community and identifying opportunities for improvement & reversal.4. Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA): Perform ESIA for any new project and ensure that the impact to environment and community is minimal.
