Apple’s iOS may be in distant second to Android in terms of market share, however, the same is not the case in terms of the share of the profits. Based on the same IDC report, Apple’s 2013 Q1 market share was 18% with 57% profit share. Compared to Samsung’s performance during the same period, market share was 33% and its profit share was 43%. To put this into perspective, Android manufacturers need to sell a staggering 7.5 units just to match the profits that Apple garnered from the sale of a single iPhone.
In a nutshell, Samsung may be the undisputed leader in market share but Apple is almost twice as profitable than Samsung.
