William Shakespeare was a playwright and English poet. He was baptized in April 26, 1564 and died in April 23, 1616. He was widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. He is often called England’s national poet and the “Bard of Avon” Shakespeare wrote many master pieces throughout his life. For example Romeo and Juliet, Othello, and Hamlet. These 3 plays are just a fraction of all the amazing plays he has written. Shakespeare was born and brought up in Stratford-upon-Avon. Throughout his short life, Shakespeare had many great achievements. Altogether, he wrote 154 sonnets, 38 plays and 2 narratives.
His most famous plays include Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet and Macbeth. These plays are known all around the world. A lot of his plays are read in classes in High School and are performed in theaters around the world. Most of his plays deal with love, violence, and tragedies. Some his famous quotes are “To be or not to be”, “What yonder window breaks wind”, and “It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.”Shakespeare was brought up in a poor family as a child.
This is why there are assumptions that he did not write all his plays himself. People thought his plays were too accurate about royalty. Shakespeare is significant to history because his plays revolutionized theater today. Each one of his plays is considered a master piece too many. Many of his plays have been made into movies because of their popularity. Shakespeare was not only amazing at tragic plays, but also comedies and poems. He is easily considered one of the greatest playwrights in history. Shakespeare also had a family.
His wife Anne Hathaway and 3 kids. We know very little about Anne Hathaway. Her name crops up a few times in historical records, but we don’t have any real sense of what type of woman she was. She grew up in a farmhouse in Shottery, a village just outside Stratford-upon-Avon in the Forest of Arden. Anne Hathaway’s Cottage remains on the site and has since become a major tourist attraction. Anne Hathaway married William Shakespeare in November 1582 – she was 26, he was just 18. It appears that the couple had conceived a child out of wedlock and a shotgun wedding was arranged despite the fact that marriages were not traditionally performed at that time of year.
Special permission had to be asked from the Church and friends and family had to financially guarantee the wedding and sign a surety for £40 – a huge some in.
To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.
It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.
Better three hours too soon than a minute too late.
The course of true love never did run smooth.
