Corporation is an authorized and recognized entity which enjoys different advantages for being separate and distinct from its owners and or shareholders. As of press time, there are a lot of established corporations all over the country. People need vast and different things and stuffs to sustain their everyday needs. They need food, clothing, shelter, education, medicine and other significant necessities.
In order to reach and provide their needs, active and creative people thought of forming advocacy groups which eventually led to the creation of more involved and appropriate institutions like corporations, companies and different organizations. There have been a lot of them since the awareness of people came into existence and they are continuously growing infinitely in number. Due to global demands, corporations and other companies and organizations opened their doors to different kinds of capable workers. Employees could come from different cities, regions and even other foreign countries.
These major opportunities could have been the reason why certain differences in the employees’ beliefs, values, and traditions were observed. Workers have shown variations in their culture. Nowadays, Engineering is one among the highly marketable careers. In fact, Systems Engineering is the highest earning job in America, according to a 2009 report published by CNN Money on its official website. It comes on top of Physician Assistant, College Professor, Nurse Practitioner and IT Project Manager, among other.
But though it is a major and solid field of study, its employees and experts could never be observed completely homogenous. Variations could always be visible. Due to this observation, the proponent of this study decided to investigate the impact of Engineers’ culture in corporate change. B. Statement of the Problem The general objective of this research is to: Study the impact of Engineers’ culture in Corporation Change. Specifically, this research aims to: 1. Determine the major differences in the culture of Engineers working in the corporation. 2.
Identify similarities in the perspective of Engineers working in the same discipline and level, if there are any. 3. Know the big differences in the culture of Engineers among the different disciplines and levels and their impact towards the change of the entire corporation. 4. See if there were differences in their opinion about how the corporation is performing. C. Statement of Hypothesis HA: Engineers’ culture has a significant impact in Corporate Change. HO: Engineers’ culture does not have significant impact in Corporate Change. D. Significance of the Study
This research project will be significantly used to determine if Engineers’ culture really affect corporation change. If so, then the Engineers could be certainly advised about how and why certain circumstances happen in their corporation. This study would also be helpful in understanding colleagues’ attitudes and responses towards particular challenges faced by the company. In addition, the outcome of this research investigation could point out major differences and even similarities among the Engineers which could be used as useful tools in determining more ways to attain improvement and overall corporation development.
The study could also provide logical reasons why particular Engineers from different disciplines and levels have varying perspectives about the operations of the corporation. Furthermore, this scientific dissertation would be of great use in overcoming negative effects of Engineers’ culture in corporate change. By identifying the impact of the Engineers’ culture, unlikely outcomes and results could be prevented. E. Operational Definitions 1. 2. Engineer- a skilled and practiced individual in the design, construction, and utilization of machines and engines 3. Culture –the sum total of all socially communicated behavior patterns, values, paradigms, arts, beliefs, traditions and all creations of human thought and activities. It could also refer to what usually appears to form when individuals anywhere begin to arrange themselves into social entities such as communities, tribes and /or nations. 4. Impact- influence or effect of a particular thing towards something
F. Scope and Limitation The study focused on the impact of Engineers’ culture, varying culture, in Corporation Changes. The study wrapped up only the impact of the culture of Engineers working in the multinational Engineering Corporation, WS Atkins. The research was conducted in the form of a survey. The survey was given to and responded by Atkins Engineers. Not all Atkins Engineers were able to participate in the study. Only a number of them were able to answer the survey.
Architect, Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineer and Electrical Engineer representing different levels and discipline took the survey. The study was conducted inside the company.
